Cinque Terre: 16 long hours and a fleeting day.

It’s been a month since I crossed the pond from Europe to America. Now that I am sitting in a comfortable air-conditioned kitchen, and eating ice-cream made with cashew milk, I can write what I remember. It was Friday, June 9th. I left home at 7:00 am and met Sarah at the Madrid airport for our flight to Milan. When the plane landed and they opened the doors, I heard a musical “Buon Giorno!” that immediately put me back in touch with my love for Italian. I was shy to try what little I could remember from the college classes … Continue reading Cinque Terre: 16 long hours and a fleeting day.

I fell in love with summer months.

I was not particularly looking to escape, but the opportunity presented itself. Once the school year was over in Madrid, concluding my first year as a Language and Culture Assistant at an elementary school, I headed to the North of Spain. I was going to work at an English outdoor summer camp for a month. It was ideal, really. Madrid gets unbearably hot in the summer, its dryness, pollution, and temperature making every part of your body sweat as you breathe in heat and exhale more heat. Everyone told me to “get out!” so I did. And I was getting paid to do so! … Continue reading I fell in love with summer months.

Day 3: freedom and choice

It was magic. A moment that balanced me out, and unraveled my existence into something that made sense. Suddenly everything made sense, or maybe it was the opposite. Once again I was walking in darkness. Lee, Lim, and I headed to Park Güell a little past 7 am. We went early because we heard it is all free before 8 am. Lee had gone before, but only to the free zone. Lim…I am not sure. Her stay in Barcelona was a little longer than expected, and she was anxious to move on to Portugal. But for me, this park (along with Sagrada … Continue reading Day 3: freedom and choice

I Exerperience Life in a High Voltage Fashion

“I experience life in a very high voltage fashion” – the thought I had while driving. I jotted it down on a piece of paper while I waited for the green light. I knew it was going to make a blog entry. I haven’t been posting much lately and it’s because I have been busy falling in and out of love. Not to make this entry cheesy, but you’ve got to admit it sets the mood. I thought of writing some good travel advice. I am so grateful for all the blog posts educating me on how to save space packing, … Continue reading I Exerperience Life in a High Voltage Fashion

“Here comes the Sun” – The Beatles

It never really ocurred to me that perhaps not enough people have watched the sunrise: Waking up when the stars are still in full shine, and the sand is still cool. I love the quiet before the world wakes up. This is my favorite part about living on the East Coast, 20 minutes from the ocean. I have watched the Sun rise with both friends and family, which never fails to make a day special (birthday, graduation, farewell breakfast). However, I cannot deny that the most rewarding sunrises have been the ones I ventured out to see alone. Throughout the … Continue reading “Here comes the Sun” – The Beatles
