Simone opened the door to our Airbnb, her hair wet from the shower, and a lose dress. “Of course she already looks like she lives here,” I thought. She had arrived a few hours before us. Sarah, Kristen, and I flew together, coincidentally sitting next to each other. These three girls are my Girl Power Team while living in Madrid. This trip was overdue. We decided to travel together during a late lunch at De Patata Madre in Bilbao, Madrid. Kristen and Sarah had spontaneously bought cheap flight tickets with a sketchy sounding airline: Wizzair. Simone and I spontaneously decided to join, though this city … Continue reading Enchantment
We had three full days, and one early morning to experience Madrid together. Before going to Portugal, I had a chance to walk my friend, Christy, around the city center. We touched based on main places like Plaza Mayor, Mercado de San Miguel, and Sol. But now it was time to pick and choose the more local/expat iconic things to do. Christy wanted us to do things I had not experience yet in this city; I wanted to bring her to places that as a local, I cannot get enough of. So here is my list of Madrid’s Can’t-Get-Enough-Of experiences: Baobab – … Continue reading My Madrid’s Can’t-Get-Enough-Of
Sometimes we travel not just for the thrill and adventure. Sometimes we travel just to see someone we love, or to run away from that which we do not love. Sometimes we travel in search of something new, maybe even specific. Generally, I travel to get absurdly lost in unknown sidewalks, losing my sense of time in a state of wonder. Sure, it does not have my usual uplifting, optimistic tone (as it’s become a blogging habit for me), … Continue reading I was not seeing New York; I was diluting in it.
I am a mess. I have no idea how to write this entry. But here is my best attempt at organized chaos. TRAVELING TO GALWAY: My flight was uneventful and sleepless. But once I got off the plane and realized I was on Irish land, I felt tremendous relief…which made me laugh. I guess in the back of my mind there was an irrational fear that my trip was not real. As if once I got to the plane they were going to say to me, “JK! You did not really book this trip, you dreamt it. Get off … Continue reading Ireland, I believe in your enchanting magic.
I walked around Chicago all day today. What an amazing feeling! I knew today I’d be heading to the Navy Pier because I had tickets for a show at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. I knew exactly what my ultimate destination was going to be for the day, BUT getting there was a series of spontaneous events. Turning at different streets, stopping at parks, finding perfect picture-taking spots…These were the pleasant happenings today. I have to admit that I went straight to the hotel after arriving…I got up to my room and felt safe. I had to talk myself into venturing … Continue reading Wasting Time
